Adoption Info

If you're looking to adopt your next forever friend, then you have come to the right place! APL has over 200 animals in its care at any given time either at our shelter or in our foster homes. Each animal comes with a unique story and is looking for their forever home.

For animals in our shelter:

Due to Covid-19 you must currently fill out an adoption application. Once approved our office will contact you to set up an appointment to come in and see the animals.

For animals in foster care:

We ask that you fill out an adoption application before setting up a meeting. There is no obligation to adopt, but we use the application to send your information to the foster so they can answer any questions you have and schedule a meeting. For questions or more information contact us here.

Preadoption:

We offer certain animals for preadoption due to medical issues or waiting for a surgery. Preadopted animals remain owned by APL but you have committed to adopting them once they are cleared and they are able to go home with you until that time. The first step to preadopting an animals is still to fill out an adoption application.  You will be pre-approved and will pre-pay your adoption fee. When the animal is released for adoption by a veterinarian, you will finalize your adoption at your last veterinary appointment at which time the animal will become legally yours. The most common reason for preadoption are heartworm positive dogs and animals waiting for surgery.

APL Animals

All of our animals are spayed or neutered and microchipped before being available for adoption. Dogs are heartworm tested; given vaccinations for rabies (if old enough), bordetella, canine distemper/parvo; and kept on heartworm and flea preventative. Cats are tested for FIV and feline leukemia; given vaccinations for rabies (if old enough) and feline distemper; and kept on flea preventative and regular dewormer. Adoption fees for our animals vary. In general adoption fees for kittens are $50 ($65 if adopted in pairs). If you adopt one and kitten and adopt its sibling or cagemate the free for both kittens is $50. Adult cats are often free or have a small adoption fee depending on the current special adoption pricing. Our dog adoption fees are variable depending on the size, breed, and health of the dog.
