Full-time Surgical Vet Assistant 

 

The Animal Protective League Spay/Neuter Clinic is dedicated to ending the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals by offering low-cost spay/neuter services to individuals and other humane groups within a 90-mile radius. The clinic is a high-volume, high-quality, low-cost facility that averages 35 surgeries per day, Monday through Friday.  We have currently performed over 16,000 spays and neuters since April, 2006.  APL is currently looking for a full-time surgical vet assistant to share our mission.

 

This position is ideal for someone looking for a fast-paced, team oriented environment.  Experience is welcome, but not necessary. On-the-job training will be provided. Vet assistants are responsible for preparing animals for surgery; administering anesthesia, vaccinations and medications; monitoring animals while in surgery; assisting the veterinarian, completion of all animal records; and daily cleaning duties.  Cleaning duties include cleaning dog and cat cages, instruments, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and laundry.  Applicants must be comfortable handling all sizes of animals, be comfortable in a surgical environment, be able to lift 50 pounds, be on their feet for an extended period of time and have strong customer service skills.
