APL Clinic Volunteer Opportunity

This is a great opportunity to learn about the other side of APL!

The Animal Protective League is seeking energetic, quick learning and dependable volunteers to help out in our Spay/Neuter Clinic. Volunteers must be comfortable in a surgical environment and with working around animals.  Volunteers need to have good customer service skills and work well with a team, be able to follow verbal instructions accurately, and be able to read and write.

Our volunteers are needed to help with washing and folding laundry, scrubbing and sterilizing instruments, tubes and masks, making and sterilizing surgical packs and assisting in moving animals from recovery back to their cages.  Volunteers must be able to bend, kneel and stand for a reasonable amount of time and must be able to lift 30 lbs unassisted.

The Spay/Neuter Clinic is open M – F.  Volunteer hours are from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.  Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one shift per week for a minimum of 4 hours per shift (i.e. Tuesdays from 8:30 – 12:30)

FAQ

Does APL need volunteer help?

Absolutely. We are a private, not-for-profit organization with a small paid staff. We have a constant need for volunteers to assist in caring for our animals, and to keep our community programs and events operating efficiently.

Can anyone volunteer?

You will need to complete an APL Volunteer Survey first, to determine the types of activities that you would enjoy doing, and to match you up with our ongoing needs.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

You must be at least 16 years old to help with our cats; at least 18 years old to help with our dogs. If you are younger, an adult must volunteer with you.

Will I receive training?

Depending on the types of volunteer tasks you are interested in, an experienced volunteer will contact you and make arrangements to train you. (For example, volunteers are not allowed to walk APL dogs until they have gone through a brief training session in safety procedures and acceptable dog-handling techniques.)

Are there things I can do other than work directly with the dogs and cats?

Yes. We have many programs and events such as our annual chili supper, sales of candy and holiday wreaths, a spring Upscale Collectible Sale ... plus, there are onsite tasks that range from answering the phones to gardening.
